Saturday 9: Upside Down

1. When was the last time that you felt your world got turned upside down? January 4th, 2004. We had a house fire and lost just about everything we owned. Clothing, furniture, family photos, etc.

2. Should the United States do more to help its own citizens before helping people in other countries? Yes it should. We have all kinds of jobless and homeless people in this country, yet we are exhausting our resources on other countries that do not return the favor. I understand they may not have the resources to help us as well (which is probably why they need our help in the first place) and I'm not saying to stop helping other countries entirely, but I think our resources should be used on our own country first and on other countries second.

3. What was something you memorized for school and still can recall? We the People of the United States in Order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

4. With what types of people do you tend to associate? I can't say that I associate with one certain type.

5. Besides blogging what is the last creative thing that you've done? hmm. Maybe making the drawstring back packs on my sewing machine or any of my sewing for that matter.

6. In nature, what outdoor activities do you enjoy the most? does laying out in the sun count? lol j/k I do enjoy walking and spending time at the lake.

7. When was the last time that you had a great belly laugh? oh, there's so many!

8. What kind of fashion-sense attracts you? Anything that looks cute & is comfortable!

9. What traits in others turn you off? pettiness, immaturity, ego-mania, selfeshness, etc...I could go on and on.

Thursday Thunks: My Life in ABC's

This week is going to be easy... just one question. Ok, well maybe not so easy. Take each letter of the alphabet and describe something in your life... don't skip any!

Anna, my best friend and confident. I would be so lost without her.

Bella is my cat's name. I love him to pieces. Yes, I said him. When I first got him, I was told he was a girl so I named him Bella after my favorite Disney character, Tinkerbell. I found out he was a he when my sister got her dog and he started to spray everything. By then he was so used to his name that I didn't have the heart to change it, so we now claim he is named after Bela Lugosi. *lol*

Charley is the dog's name, but I hardly ever call her that because she pisses me off so much.

Driving is something I tend to do a lot of. Whether it's for running errands or taking road trips.

Endless is how my days seem sometimes.

Facebook and Farmville help me pass time.

Google helps me find what I'm looking for, no matter what it is.

Happiness is something I've learned to create for myself because no one else is going to do it for me.

Internet helps me keep in touch with those who aren't so close by but mean so much to me.

Jacob, my sarcastic 15 year old brother. He's funny and smart. He's an awesome football player and I look for him to get a college scholarship to play football at the college of his choice.

Kristen, my smart alec 16 year old sister. She's an amazing artist.

Love is something I feel around me every day, all different types from all different people...it warms my soul.

Mistakes I have made in the past are why I am the way I am today. I refuse to have any repeats!!!

Nocturnal is how I seem to be unless I have something gravely important to do in the morning. Even then, I'm still more nocturnal then I should be.

Optimism is one of my stronger traits, perhaps too strong sometimes.

Pectus Excavatum is the birth defect I have. Although I had surgery to correct it when I was 2.5 yrs. old, it still affects me in some ways.

Questions plague me throughout the day. Some meaningful and some pointless. I make it a point to carry a notebook to write them all down in so I can find the answers at some point or another.

Reading is one of my most favorite hobbies. I particularly enjoy reading books that were turned into movies (Harry Potter, Twilight, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and The Notebook just to name a few.)

Singing along to the radio in the car and in the shower is something I do often, although I'm not the best at it.

Tinkerbell is my favorite Disney character, and I have quite an extensive collection of Tinkerbell items.

Underhanded is the only way I can toss a ball.

Vision impared since I was 5 years old.

Wendy's was my first job at 15 years old.

Xrays are something I'm all too familiar with. More specifically chest & lung xrays thanks to asthma and my birth defect.

Yankee is something I was called all throughout high school because I was born and raised up north but spent my high school years down south. I still live in the south :o)

Zebra print is what you will find on my bed sheets.

Ready? Set. GO!

I spoke to my Admissions advisor today. My appointment is set for Friday at 9:30 a.m to finish up my financial aid and take my placement tests. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.

This is the final step in the admissions process, so I will officially be a college student (again!) as of Friday. The placement testing will determine if I need to take any math and english classes. I'm sure it's pretty basic.

I've decided to enroll in the Pharmacy Tech program. I had my choice to do classes 3x a week or 4x a week. I chose 4x a week so that I will complete the program in just 9 mos. Classes will begin June 1st, 2010 and I'm slated to graduate February 19th, 2011.

I don't plan to just stop at Pharmacy Tech either. I want to keep going. Maybe even expand into Medical Assisting and/or Nursing. The way I see it, the possibilities are endless!

I'm so very excited about this and nervous about it all at the same time. It's been almost 10 yrs. since I set foot into an actual classroom and the only prior college experience I have is with online courses. But, I know I can do this.

Please Help: The Stoner Family

I know I have yet to gain a huge audience seeing as I just started this blog just over a week ago. However, I hope that those of you who do follow me or stop by can help.

Like many people in the blogger world, I have a Facebook account. It's helped me reconnect with many people from high school. One of them being my friend Hailey, who is now married with 2 children.

Hailey's youngest child, Carter, was just born February 7th. He was born with Tricuspid Atresia and has spent most of his life so far in the CICU. He requires a heart transplant and has been on the doner list for over 6 weeks now.

The Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) has an online donation page set up to help the Stoner Family with transplant related expenses. If you are able to make a donation, please do so by clicking here.

I understand that times are tough and not everyone is able to make a donation at this time, but there are other ways to help. If you could take a few minutes out of your day to pass Carter's story along to your friends and family and say a little prayer for the Stoner it would be much appreciated.

The Stoner Family has their own blog that they use to update everyone on Carter's condition and progress. Feel free to visit them over there as well and show some support. And if you have a Facebook account, there is a group over there called Support Baby Carter Stoner.

Weekend Wrap Up: FAIL!

If I could only use one word to describe this weekend, it would be FAIL.

Nothing went as planned and just when I thought it couldn't possibly get any worse, it did. Of course, most of these "hiccups" from the weekend will be cleared up at the beginning of the week. It's just disappointing to have a bad weekend.

Just to re-cap:

I was supposed to have the water pump put on my car yesterday, but Joe's mechanic buddy had a sudden change in his plans. He says he can fit me in on Monday. Let's hope so. *crossing fingers*

The air conditioner in the house stopped working yesterday morning and it's been 80+ degrees outside all weekend. This will more than likely be resolved Monday as well.

By fluke, I discovered last night that "Jack" was a lying, scandalous scum bag and is actually married. I've tried to call him and text him all day just to simply confront him, but he's not answering. Gee, I wonder why?

I slept through my alarm this morning, which caused me to oversleep and miss church.

All in all, my weekend wasn't all to horrible. I just wish it wouldn't have been so disappointing.

The Sunday Seven

Name the seven television shows you’re most likely to watch on channels other than the major four broadcast networks.

1. The Secret Life of the American Teenager
2. Teen Mom
3. 16 and Pregnant
4. Degrassi
5. Intervention
6. The First 48
7. Dog the Bounty Hunter

Straight Out Of the Camera Sunday: Bella

I know this picture is a bit old, but I've been clearing off my memory card this weekend *lol*

Life Lessons: Trust

Life is full of disappointments. I really need to make it a life policy to not get my hopes up about anything, ever. Period. That way, when it doesn't work out the way I hope, I can't be disappointed. Well, that's easier said then done, huh?

I made it a life policy long ago to never regret anything I do, because it's exactly what I wanted regardless of how it turns out. I also made it a life policy to take at least one lesson from each mistake I make along the way.

Right now, I'm a little bummed over some information I just happened to stumble upon thanks to Facebook for Blackberry. Before I reveal what that is, let me give you guys just a little bit of back story.

Up until recently, I was employed as an Assistant Manager at a gas station. I began working at a store maybe 5 minutes from my house in July 2009. In October 2009, I was transferred to a store about 25 minutes away in Bristol. There was this guy, we'll call him Jack, that came in on a regular basis. He was a fleet customer and always got diesel. Well, I always thought Jack was kinda cute and he was always real sweet. He'd tell me every time he came in "I came just to see you." A little cheesy, I know, but I fell for it. I finally worked up the nerve to give him my cell phone number in January, and he text me that very night. We've text, talked and hung out here and there ever since then. But, it's always been a bit hot and cold. He always explained it away as being so busy with work. Although I was a little skeptical, I brushed my pessimism aside because I really liked Jack and I wanted to see where things could end up.

As I previously mentioned, I stumbled upon some information thanks to Facebook for Blackberry. I was on Facebook just a while ago, and I was in the search for friends area. Well, since I have the Facebook app installed on my Blackberry and it's synced with my Facebook account, you can search for people based on their mobile phone number. So, I hit the button to see which of my phone contacts were on Facebook that I had not added yet and guess who pops up? Yup, you guessed it...Jack! So, I click on his name to view his profile, and that's when I discover that he is MARRIED!

What the f*ck? Are you serious? Yes, yes I am.

I don't know whether I want to laugh or cry. It just figures with my luck that this would be the case. This explains a lot, but at the same time it just makes me feel bad, dirty, wrong....oh I could go on an on. I know I could be jumping to conclusions. He could be seperated from his wife. But even so, if you're seperated from your spouse...are you going to list your marital status as married? No, you're going to list your marital status as seperated or single. Even so, he never ever mentioned anything to me about having a wife or being married. Ever. So, he was obviously trying to hide that fact.

Ugh, men! Or in this case, should I say boys?

So, what's the lesson I can take with me from this mistake? Maybe his hot/cold behavior should have had me more on guard. (Actually, it did. But, Richard told me to stop being so pessimistic.) Maybe I should always look up potential dates on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. and scope out their profiles for anything they could be trying to hide. Bottom line? I need to stop being so trusting. Not just when it comes to men, but in my life in general.
