Saturday 9: Half the Man I Used to Be

1. Do you feel that you are essentially the same person that your were ten years ago? Not even close I was 16 yrs. old and just beginning my senior year of high school. I was so inexperienced.

2. Is there something that you have to give all or nothing to? School

3. Have you ever gambled? What have you bet on and for how much? I once went to Atlantic City with my Mom, some aunts, uncles and cousins. It was just for the hell of it really. I didn't win anything, but I didn't lose anything either *lol* I also play scratch lottery tickets every once in a while. I won $500 off of a $2 ticket back in March.

4. Can you sleep anywhere or does it have to be in a bed? It has to be a bed. I have buldging disks in my back and sometimes I can't stand up straight in the morning when I sleep in a bed....would hate to see what kind of shape I'd be in if I slept in the floor.

5. Tell us about the most disastrous or embarrassing first impression you've ever made on someone. I honestly can't think of one.

6. Do you have a memorable "ripped clothing" moment in your life? No? How about in someone else's? haha yes, but I'll never tell!!

7. What's changed on your blog since its inception? ...a redo? ...a change of pace? ...or is it about the same? I've not had this blog up for very long. The most I've changed is maybe the background, colors and music.

8. If you could travel back in time and whisper something to yourself ten years ago, what would it be? Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed.

9. Okay, let's have it! What's the craziest, most impulsive thing you've ever done? Move to South Carolina.

4. Chicken alfredo, garlic bread and salad make a good meal.

5. I've got the sniffles.

6. Hurricane Fiona: wth!!!

Thursday Thunks: At the Zoo

1. Would you rather have a pet hippo or a pet elephant? Pet Elephant.

2. Why do you think bananas are shaped the way they are? So that monkeys can hold them.

3. In one word (OK, you can go three to four MAX) , what do most people describe you as? Loud.

4. Choice (stupid but a choice…): Loss of vision, ability to speak or hearing - which do you choose? (you have to choose one....) It's like a law. But we can't make you. Out of those 3, I'd rather lose my ability to speak because if you give me a pen and a piece of paper (or my blog), I can still communicate with others.

5. Do you like lemons? Do you use them to clean with or just as a food source? Or are you saving them up for 2012? I love lemons. I use them in lemonade and sometimes in sweet tea. I've also squeezed them on chicken, fish and salad. They're also great for cleaning the coffee pots in a restaurant.

6. When you are feeling icky with that sickness feeling, what is your first choice for feel-better medicine? Sprite/Sierra Mist/7up or Pepto

7. You are starving. You have not had anything to eat for days. In front of you is poison ivy, a live hissing cockroach, and a rotten stinky piece of some sort of mystery meat to eat. Which would you pick and why? Wow, that's not much of a choice...I think I'd rather just take my chances on starving

8. Who was the last person you bought a present for? What was it? Will you buy Berleen one? The tshirt, shorts and shoes I bought Holly's son, Riley, for his birthday in April. Sad isn't it? Unfortunately, bills and necessities take up most, if not all, of my money now.

9. Name 3 things you want your kids to learn before they grow up. (If you don't have kids, feel free to explain to the other players why you chose the “no kids“ choice. Yea. I know. (Those who have children will NEVER get it. And no, don‘t explain it…) I don't have kids yet, but I definitely want at least one, if not more. But, I would want my kids to learn:

  • Treat others the way you would want to be treated, even when others are being a douche. It's never easy, but you will walk away with the satisfaction of knowing you were the bigger/better person in the situation.
  • Stand up for what you believe in.
  • Life is hard. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes and that's okay, just as long as you learn from them.

10. What was your favorite toy as a child? What happened to it? I had a doll named Tuggabows. She went everywhere with me and I went to sleep hugging on to her. She is in a box at my parent's house, buck naked. I couldn't tell you what happened to her dress or hair bow.

11. If you could paint your house ANY color you wanted and your friends, family & neighbors would love the color from the moment they saw it, what would it be? lime green

12. If the Pillsbury Dough Boy got into a fight with Mrs. Butterworth who would win? And would anybody get hurt? And do we seem desperate even asking? Mrs. Buttersworth...all she'd have to do is poke Pillsbury Dough Boy in the tummy and he'd laugh uncontrollably, forfitting any chance of winning he may have had.

13. What was the last thing you would guess that Kimber took a picture of? Her kids.

Hurricane Earl

It's been downgraded to a Category 3, but it's said to be strengthening again over warmer waters and expected to be upgraded back up to a Category 4 by tomorrow. It's also not expected to make landfall, but instead graze along coastal communities on the East Coast.

Weather can be so unpredictable. If they are wrong about this, we could see some nasty weather this holiday weekend. Good thing our Labor Day plans don't include the beach. Even so, heavy winds and rain aren't the best conditions for a cookout!

*Crossing Fingers*

Let's just hope Earl stays far out in the Atlantic Ocean.

It MUST be a Case of the Mondays

It's been quite an interesting afternoon and evening around here.

Today was pay day for me. So when Sarah's grandmother came over to pick her up and take her to get Melodie and Zack from school, Bryson and I went too. We picked the kids up from school, picked up my pay check, went to the bank and then headed to Walmart.

Have any of you ever been to Walmart with 3 kids? It definitely was nowhere near as bad as it could have been. In fact, the kids were very well behaved as we went through the store, grabbing the few items we had went there for (laundry detergent, trash bags, pine sol and febreze). It was when we got to the self check out that it started to go downhill. The kids started asking for candy. (Blasted checkout displays!) Sarah told them no, not today and that would have been the end of it, if Sarah's grandmother hadn't been with us.

While Sarah and I were busy at the self check out, her grandmother decided to take Melodie and Zack (Bryson was sitting in the cart) over to the next check out and buy them candy bars anyway. We didn't see what was happening until her grandmother was handing the cashier the money.

Sarah was furious! If I were in her shoes, I would have been too. Although, I swear I must have been turning blue/purple on the car ride home as I fought to choke back the laughter as she argued it out with her grandmother.

Sarah: I told them no, grandmama.
Grandmother: I thought you said no because you couldn't afford it and I had some money and wanted to buy them some candy.
Sarah: I told them no because they have plenty of snacks at home. If you wanted to get them the candy, you should have asked me instead of going behind my back.
Grandmother: But they've been at school all day and they're hungry.
Sarah: And they're just going to starve to death before dinner. I guess you better get ready for a funeral.

Sarah was being sarcastic, of course. Her grandmother didn't just buy them some candy. She got them each a king sized candy bar. One regular size candy bar for them all to share would have been more than sufficient. We don't give them a whole lot of sweets or junk, especially since Zack's cavity was discovered.

Things calmed down a little bit once we got home. Sarah put the candy bars up and didn't let the kids have them. Once Richard got home, we ordered the new italian style pizza from Pizza Hut for dinner. Then, Richard helped Melodie and Zack with their homework while Sarah took me to the school so I could take my Algebra test. I ended up getting an 82.5% on the test which brought my 99.5% average to an 86.8% Hopefully I can bring it back up soon.

Manic Monday

What are the values you cherish even though they may run counter to societal values? Honesty, respect, courtesy and equality.

Mondays make me anxious to get my homework done for Tuesday's class.

If you were to publish a book about yourself, what would you title it? About a Girl.

Jacob's Football Photos

Last school year, I was able to attend my brother, Jacob's football games as long as I didn't have to work. This school year, I'm 330 miles away. However, thanks to Allen Greene Photography, I am able to look at photos from each game online. I was able to do this last school year as well, but it means a little more to me this school year. I am so proud of him! Despite missing the beginning of summer training thanks to his broken foot (oops!), he's an awesome player. He's 110% dedicated and it honestly would not surprise me if he ended up going to college on a football scholarship. I'm probably getting a little ahead of myself seeing as he's just a sophomore. Did I mention that he's in honors classes and gets straight A's? Yup...my baby brother is the bomb *lol*

They've only played two games so far this season, and they've won both of them. The 1st game was a home game and the 2nd was an away game.

The Sunday Seven

Name seven of your top annoyances of late.

1. When the boys neglect to put the toilet seat back down.
2. Not getting a whole lot of hours at work.
3. My financial aid/student loan not being processed yet.
4. Not being able to find my brass, mirrored perfume tray Mom gave me for Christmas in 2008.
5. Not being able to find Dear John at the library.
6. Being without a car.
7. The headaches that I've been getting due to the fact that I need an eye exam and new glasses.

Weekend Wrap Up: So far, so good.

My algebra homework is DONE....and it's not even due until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. Go me! I'm taking Algebra online this semester because the on campus class was full. I was a little skeptical about it at first, but it's turned out just fine. In fact, I think I like it better this way because I can work at my own pace.

I have a test that's due by 8:30 p.m. tomorrow and whenever I click on it, it asks for a password. Maybe that means I have to go to the school and take it? I emailed my teacher to find out. If that's the case, I wish I would have known sooner. My on campus class this semester, Biology, is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I would have just taken it this past Thursday.

I finished reading The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks and now I'm working on A Bend in the Road. I'm working on getting all of Nicholas Sparks' novels read. I really enjoyed Nights in Rodanthe, The Notebook and The Last Song. The movies were good too, although I felt as though the movie of The Last Song was lacking something.
